ROUTE 77
Dorian Haarhoff
Format: paperback, 244 x 170 mm 434 pages ISBN 978-0-6486524-5-8 (print) ISBN 978-0-6452761-3-8 (ePub) DESCRIPTION
Route 77 is an autobiography and poetic travelogue; it is wisdom; it is esoteric, it is funny. Spirituality gets Dorian's attention, as does nature, philosophy, psychology, animals, dreams. It offers a paradox of mysticism and the concrete, where eclectic material jumps around the beans in a sizzling pan (he includes a Greek recipe). Dorian dubs this original format as a kind of Babushka with seven dolls. Imagine each doll decorated with eleven symbols and images. Holograms. Within these pages are poems, memoir (Poememoir), prose, humour (much humour), profound literature and Dorian’s remarkable questioning for his 77 years. In this book, Dorian’s heartfelt expression for southern Africa rivals Percy FitzPatrick, Nadine Gordimer, and Alan Paton. Dorian is an academic, bohemian, acclaimed poet, raconteur and writing coach. Dorian left the safe but confined harbour of professorship to write, and to teach people to write. Dorian has helped thousands of writers, in Europe, The Americas, Africa and Australia, improve their prose and tell their story. Sales points:

REVIEW
On receiving the ‘Poememoir’ tome, I placed it in bedside, pole position. The intention was to read it bit by bit as it is too much to take in at once.
Last night, after many of fun weeks, I finally reached ‘Endwords.’ I read more slowly, savouring every line as the Route 77 journey ended. I loved the whole book, and felt quite awed by the arc and scope. Each of the seven headings provides a different and welcome launching pad for the flights of fact and fancy that dance along the way. Some impressions will long remain. Firstly, the consistently elegant lightness of touch, with humour that is light, gentle, playful, mischievous and tricksterish. Secondly, there is a consistent generosity of spirit in the way Dorian describes all fellow-travellers along the way. Zen simplicity dances alongside depth, gravitas and saudade. Inspiring writings of others enrich every page. Past mistakes, relationships, and events unfold gently, in poem or script.
To facilitate so much growth and healing in your life’s work, Humble in appearance, heroic in achievement is uniquely Dori-an, and a whole pile of fun.
